I’ve coached thousands of job seekers who felt lost and overwhelmed. Here are the 10 steps we start with to find the right path: 1. Your #1 Priority Clarity should be the first thing you invest in. It makes career success SO much easier (at every stage). When you have clarity, you can invest 100% of your energy into that goal. So before you start applying to jobs or grad school? Find your path. 2. The Myth Of “Passion” People think passion is a lightning bolt that suddenly hits you. One day you wake up knowing what you're supposed to do. That's BS. Passion stems from action. It's the result of trying new things. If you want to find your path? You need to act. 3. Map Out Your Ideal Lifestyle Career happiness doesn't come from a job title. It stems from the ability to meet your lifestyle needs: – Target salary – Ideal living situation – Surrounded by people you love – Work that fills your cup Start by defining all of these things. 4. Label Your Energy Next, grab a piece of paper. Make two columns: 1. Energy Creators 2. Energy Drainers Now list out every single activity, task, and project you've worked on. Label each as a creator or drainer. Your career path should be filled with energy creators. 5. Clarify Your Strengths Success is easier when your path plays to natural strengths. I recommend the High 5 Test. It's a 15 minute quiz that will define your top strengths. It'll tell you what each means and how to harness it. Talent: A natural way of thinking, feeling, behaving × Investment: Time spent practicing, developing your skills, or building a knowledge base = Strength: The ability to consistently provide near-perfect performance 6. Find People Doing "Cool" Stuff Now you've created clarity around your strengths, energy, and ideal lifestyle. Next, I want you to find people already living that life. Who has a job you admire? What jobs have seemed “cool” to you in the past? Make a list of 30+ contacts. 7. Reach Out & Learn Make a daily habit of reaching out to one person. Be honest about your situation and desire for clarity. Then make sure to build up their achievements and mention why you admire them. Here's the email template I used when I was on this journey: The Winning Template: Subject: Quick Question Hi [Name], My name is [Your Name] and I came across your information on LinkedIn while I was looking for people who transitioned into [Industry/Field] from a non-traditional background. Your background is really impressive! I saw you do different fields and [Industry/Field] really piqued my interest. If you have a few minutes, I’d love to hear more about your journey and how you landed in your role today. I know that’s a big ask so no worries if it’s too much. I totally understand. Either way, hope you have a great rest of the week!

10 Hard Truths About Goal Setting in the Age of AI 1. AI won’t save you from unclear goals. If you can’t define what you want, no algorithm can deliver it. Vague, sweeping goals are too broad to be acted upon. They must be concrete and detailed. AI can help you by asking questions that help you define parameters of success. 2. A goal in your head isn’t a goal. Put it on paper because an unwritten wish is just a dream. In writing, it’s a commitment, a goal. A few years ago, I laminated a small version of a sheet of my goals and kept it in my wallet. 3. Specificity beats speed. AI accelerates execution, but only if your goals are precise, measurable, and time-bound. Know what steps you’ll take to achieve your goal, the date by which it will be accomplished, and the measurement you'll use to gauge whether you’ve achieved your goal or not. You can use AI to help you set these parameters. 4. Believability matters as much as ambition. If your team doesn’t believe the goal is attainable, even with AI’s help, engagement dies. If you don’t believe you can reach your goals, you won’t. 5. Challenging goals are the only ones worth writing. Easy goals breed complacency. AI should free you for stretch goals that demand creativity and resilience. Step out of your comfort zone and set goals that require risk and uncertainty. 6. Data won’t replace direction. AI gives you insights, but you still need a clear, written plan to turn data into decisions. 7. Deadlines create momentum. AI can forecast and automate, but without time-bound goals, everything drifts. When you achieve your goal, set another one. 8. Accountability isn’t automated. AI can track metrics, but only humans commit. Write down who owns what and by when. 9. AI magnifies focus, or distraction. Clear written goals keep you from chasing every shiny new tool or trend. If you’re focused, AI will help you move faster toward your goals. If you’re distracted, AI will help you waste time at scale. 10. Relationships still power results. Even in an AI world, success depends on collaboration. Make relational goals part of your written action plan. AI can tell you who to reach out to and even what to say, but only you can build authentic relationships that inspire loyalty and drive performance. The leaders who win will put their goals on paper, make them specific, believable, and challenging, and back them up with a Relationship Action Plan that drives trust and accountability.

"'I Want to Make 5X More' – Why This Goal Won't Get You There One of the common challenge my ambitious clients face is the desire to significantly increase their income—whether it's 2X, 3X, 5X, or even 10X their current income. The key to unlocking these BIG goals lies in how we frame them right from the start. Your goals must be under YOUR control. Setting goals that others control leads to: 🛑 Powerlessness: You rely on others, not yourself. 🛑 Low Motivation: Obstacles easily derail you. 🛑 Blame Game: You don't own your results. 🛑 Stress & Anxiety: Uncertainty takes over. 🛑 Wasted Effort: You focus on influencing others, not yourself. So, how do we transform the desire for a 'multiple-X income' into a goal YOU can control and achieve? Here are a few examples of how to reframe your goals: 👉 Upskill: "I will master [specific, in-demand skill] to command top salaries in the industry." 👉Network Strategically: "I will connect with [number] influential people in my industry each month to expand my horizons and discover new strategies and opportunities." 👉Exceed Expectations: "I will consistently go above and beyond at work and seek new challenges to be considered for the next promotion." 👉Build a Side Hustle: "I will create a side business to generate [amount] of additional income." 👉Become Financially Savvy: "I will educate myself on personal finance and investment strategies to grow my wealth." By focusing on actions you can take, not on what others might do for you, you take control of your career journey and boost your chances of success. How much control do you have over the outcome of your current career goals? #careercoaching #goalsetting

What if leadership growth had less to do with new knowledge and more to do with new visibility? Most leaders don’t fail from lack of skill. They fall short of blind spots they never knew existed. That’s where AI is quietly reshaping leadership development. Here’s how this shift is redefining leadership growth: 1. Pattern recognition beyond perception AI identifies subtle tendencies across thousands of interactions, such as how you make decisions, delegate tasks, and drive impact. 2. Precision capability building There is no more generic “leadership training.” AI pinpoints where your strengths yield the most results and where minor adjustments can unlock far greater effectiveness. 3. Acceleration of impact A Harvard Kennedy School study highlights how data-driven leadership assessment is shifting organizations from subjective judgment to measurable growth, accelerating development outcomes across the board. 4. From self-image to self-awareness It’s no longer about how you think you lead, but how your leadership actually performs. 5. The blind spot paradox The most critical leadership gaps aren’t visible in reviews; they live in the unnoticed patterns of everyday decisions. AI makes the invisible visible. When your leadership reflection becomes data-driven, growth stops being random. It becomes intentional. If you could see one hidden pattern shaping your leadership today, what would you want the mirror to show? #LeadershipDevelopment #ExecutiveCoaching #LeadershipAssessment

I think AI just eliminated one of the biggest barriers to becoming a content creator. For years, if you wanted a professional-looking broadcast package, you hired a graphic designer or a creative agency. They built your logo, lower thirds, transitions, title cards, social graphics, and visual identity. It took weeks and often cost thousands of dollars. Over the last few days, I’ve been doing exactly that for Tattooed Nerd…except my creative partner wasn’t an agency. It was AI. Together we built an entire broadcast system from scratch. Not just a logo, but a complete visual language that I’ll be able to use across every video I create. Every lower third, infographic, title card, overlay, background, and thumbnail now follows the same design style. Instead of reinventing the wheel every time I record a video, I already have a library of assets that I can simply reuse. That was the biggest lesson for me. Most creators use AI to make individual things. They’ll ask it to create a thumbnail or a social graphic, use it once, and move on. I think the real opportunity is much bigger than that. Use AI to build your system. Once you have a consistent color palette, typography, layouts, and reusable graphics, creating new content becomes dramatically faster. Your videos begin to look like they all belong to the same brand because they do. The barrier to creating professional content has fundamentally changed. You no longer need to be an expert graphic designer to build something that looks polished. You need a vision, the patience to iterate, and the willingness to keep refining until everything feels cohesive. I don’t think AI replaces creativity. If anything, it amplifies it. The ideas are still yours. AI just removes so much of the friction between the idea in your head and the finished product on the screen. If you’re a content creator, don’t just use AI to create your next graphic. Use it to build the entire creative engine behind your brand. Create layers. Create Fonts. Create palettes. Create graphic parts like dividers and arrows. Then you’re putting pieces together for every new graphic instead of designing something new every time. I honestly believe that’s where the real power is. Tattooed Nerd

Every month, I challenge myself to build one small solution using my own knowledge and skills, something that can help improve the way I work or benefit others around me. This month, I created an AI-powered app to test my own AI fluency and Artificial Intelligence knowledge based on the learning standards used in my organization. The questions are generated by AI using recent developments reported by global consultants, research institutions, and industry bodies, ensuring the assessment reflects what is actually happening in today’s AI landscape. I also designed five levels of AI fluency that resonate with how professionals can grow in an organization: L1 – Awareness: Understanding available AI tools. L2 – Productivity: Using AI tools to improve daily work. L3 – Process Transformation: Converting existing workflows into AI-assisted processes. L4 – AI Builder: Creating simple AI tools such as AI agents, vibe coding. L5 – AI Innovator: Building solutions that transform processes and deliver business value. After the assessment, the AI also recommends relevant training programs from the company’s learning catalog to close knowledge gaps. For me, AI leadership begins with continuous experimentation, learning, and improving AI fluency.

Stanley Made My LinkedIn Posts Take 3X Longer (And That's Actually Good!) A week ago, I became the first customer of Stanley, the new AI creative companion for LinkedIn by Vitalii Dodonov and John Hu (thanks guys!!) I thought AI might save me time on LinkedIn posts. But now I spend MORE time on them than ever Here's why that's the best thing that happened to my content... Before AI: 20 minutes to write a mediocre post After AI: 60 minutes crafting something I'm actually proud of (And performs much better! My first post with Stanley got 15,000 views) The difference? AI didn't replace my thinking - it amplified it. Here's what nobody tells you about AI for content: ✅ You'll generate 10X more ideas (and spend time choosing the best) ✅ You'll explore angles you never considered (and rabbit hole on research) ✅ You'll polish every sentence (because now you have no excuse not to) I used to write one draft and hit publish. Now? I'm iterating like a software developer: Version 1: AI helps brainstorm Version 2: We refine the hook together Version 3: I add my personal stories Version 4: AI suggests structural improvements Version 5: I polish until it sings The paradox: AI gives you superpowers, but with great power comes... way more time perfecting your craft. Overall, my engagement is up 3X and I’ve really enjoyed having more, better conversations in the comments. Turns out, when you use AI as a creative partner instead of a shortcut, you don't save time. You invest it. You stop settling for "good enough" and start chasing "what's the best I can really do here?" So Stanley taught me this: the future isn't about AI making content creation faster. It's about AI making creators better. And that takes time. Beautiful, productive, game-changing time. Who else is spending MORE time on content since AI came along? 👇 - Rob (w/ Stanley) P.S. ♻️ Sharing is caring :)

AI upskilling isn't just about technical training. Are you allocating budget for the leadership challenges it creates? I'm seeing a concerning trend across organisations investing heavily in AI: All focus on technical training. Almost zero attention on the leadership capabilities needed to navigate the human side of this transformation. After delivering numerous transformation initiatives throughout my career, I know this imbalance is a pattern that undermines potential success. Here's what's missing from your AI budget allocation: ❌ Your leaders aren't equipped to handle the fear and resistance that emerges when teams believe AI threatens their relevance ❌ Your executives haven't developed the skills to identify which decisions should remain human-led versus AI-augmented ❌ Your leadership pipeline isn't being prepared for the new competencies required in an AI-integrated workplace The research is clear - organizations that fail to invest in leadership development alongside technical implementation see significantly lower ROI on their investments. The organisations succeeding with AI are investing equally in: ✅ Technical capability building ✅ Leadership development focused on human-AI collaboration ✅ Change management expertise specifically for AI adoption ✅ Executive coaching to navigate complex ethical considerations What percentage of your AI transformation budget is dedicated to leadership capability building? If it's under 30%, you're likely setting yourself up for costly setbacks. Are you preparing your leaders, or just your systems? #OutcomesOverHours #AILeadership #ChangeManagement #FutureOfWork

Are your career goals SMART enough to succeed? I’ve seen countless professionals struggle with career stagnation, not because they lack ambition, but because their goals aren’t structured for success. The right structure turns intentions into actions, and that’s what drives real progress. Enter the SMART framework: ✅ Specific – Get clear on what you want and why it matters. ✅ Measurable – Define how you’ll track progress. ✅ Achievable – Stretch yourself, but keep it realistic. ✅ Relevant – Make sure it aligns with your bigger vision. ✅ Time-bound – Set a deadline to create urgency. Here’s how it works in action: ❌ “I want to get promoted soon.” ✅ “I will meet with my manager next month to outline a development plan, take on two high-impact projects, and improve my leadership skills to position myself for a promotion within the next 12 months.” ❌ “I need to network more.” ✅ “I will attend one industry event per quarter, post twice a month on LinkedIn about my expertise, and schedule five informational chats with professionals in my field over the next three months.” ❌ “I need to find a new job.” ✅ “I will apply to five targeted roles per week, optimize my LinkedIn profile by the end of the month, and schedule two networking conversations weekly to increase my chances of landing a role in the next 90 days.” What’s one SMART goal you’re working on right now? Let's make it happen!
