    I’ve had four completely different careers. Every decade, I’ve stripped my life back to its core, reexamined my direction, and reimagined my purpose. With each reinvention, I’ve moved closer to the truth of who I am and to the work I believe I was made to do. Here are the four changes I’ve gone through: – Classical musician: Learned discipline, beauty, and the cost of perfection. – Economics professor: Studied human behavior through the lens of financial choice. – Think tank president: Led ideas with impact at a national scale. – Writer and teacher on happiness: Now I help others build lives of deep meaning. In our early careers, many of us chase fluid rewards: novel problems, fast wins, accolades, and advancement. But as we age, something shifts, and our minds start to change, our priorities evolve, and the rewards that once satisfied us begin to feel hollow. Research shows that as fluid intelligence fades, crystallized intelligence (the ability to teach, synthesize, and lead with wisdom) rises. But to access it, we have to let go of who we were and embrace who we’re becoming. By rebuilding with intention, you let go of the ego that says, “I can’t afford to change.” And listen instead to the voice that asks, “What am I being called to do next?”

    Dear software engineers, always remember this: ( From an Engineering Manager who’s watched dozens of careers stall & grow ) If you’re wrapping tickets days early and scrolling Slack ╚ Grab the messy feature nobody understands. You’ll learn faster than any course. If every PR gets an instant “LGTM” ╚ Ask a senior to shred your code. True progress starts with uncomfortable feedback. If your code has never woken you at 2 a.m. ╚ Take the next on‑call rotation. A single outage teaches systems thinking more than six sprints. If you haven’t explained your work to a junior ╚ Mentor one. Teaching forces you to spot and fix gaps in your own knowledge. If the architecture doc never changes after launch ╚ Stress‑test it for 10× traffic and write what breaks. Designing for failure is real architecture. If your career roadmap feels obvious ╚ Pitch a project that scares you a little, new stack, tougher SLA, bigger scale. Growth lives one step past comfort.

    Most of us get at least 1 opportunity that changes our career trajectory; I am not referring to the biggest/ largest role we do but the role that prepares us for these bigger, larger roles. It is the role that sets us up for the future.   For me, it was moving from an HR Head role for a mid-size company in India where I managed a large team to an individual contributor role where I would work in a specialized area but at a global scale within the same company. I was advised by many not to pursue it but I was open. What was the attraction – it would allow me to work with HR & Business Leaders of over 50 countries and it was a new role; so I could shape it.   I got experiences I could have never imagined for myself. Conducting a goal setting workshop for the leadership team in Japan; piloting a leadership program for Western Europe and conducting a performance management training for the Bangladesh team. I worked with colleagues from so many different cultures and backgrounds. I changed – both personally and professionally. I was humbled with everything I didn't know. I learned how to adapt, I became less judgmental and a lot more open minded.   The role also gave me an opportunity to work with very senior leaders and it was a booster immersion in how they think; the questions they ask and how they make decisions. Most importantly, I learned to operate without authority. And that helped me do my next role better.   Here are 4 of my biggest learnings:   1. Don't judge roles by size/ scale; think about the potential to impact. A larger role (textbook definition) doesn’t always result in higher impact - the context is very important. 2. Careers are about skill stacking. And instead of mastering one skill, we need to take a step back from our core strength and build a winning combination of skill sets that are unique to us and make us more effective. 3. Experience is different from experiences. Too often we define learning very narrowly in the professional context. Joining a well settled team and making your place in it; managing demanding peers; building a team or keeping it intact in challenging times; navigating a large & complex organization; working for an inspiring leader; managing conflicting priorities of different stakeholders. These are all experiences. 4. Be open, take risks - it is a key quality in managing our careers successfully. And we all need some discomfort to help us reach our full potential. #experiences #careers

    The quantum computing job market is exploding, and the opportunity is wide open for those who act now. If you’re a student thinking About a Career in Quantum Computing, Here’s What’s Actually Out There Step 1: Understand the Education Options   - There are about 90 quantum-focused academic programs in the U.S.   - 61 universities offer dedicated majors, minors, or certificates.   - 43% of programs are interdisciplinary, 27% are in physics, and the rest are spread across engineering, computer science, and chemistry. Step 2: Know the Job Requirements   - 55% of quantum jobs are open to those with a bachelor’s degree.   - 14% require a master’s, and 31% require a PhD.   - Most industry roles don’t require a PhD, but research and academic jobs often do. Step 3: Salary and Demand   - The median salary for quantum professionals in the U.S. is $166,000.   - Entry-level roles typically pay $80,000–$120,000.   - The field is growing, with job postings tripling since 2011, but the total workforce is still small (about 30,000 globally).   - There’s a measurable talent gap: one qualified candidate for every three open positions. Step 4: Program Quality   - Look for programs with real research activity, access to quantum hardware, and industry partnerships.   - Free courses from IBM Qiskit, Microsoft Azure Quantum, and Google Cirq are widely recognized, but not all certificates are valued by employers. California launched a $4 million initiative in 2025 to expand quantum education and workforce training. If you’re considering this field, focus on building a solid foundation in physics, computer science, or engineering, and look for hands-on experience. Here’s the Tier-3 College Survival Guide👇 Step 1: Accept the Truth—Then Beat It    Yes, you may not get top-tier placements.   Yes, you may not have brand exposure.   But that also means: you’ve got nothing to lose and everything to prove. 🎯 Your hunger > their brand name.     I am often asked how I transitioned from IT services into manufacturing. Some are also aware that this sectoral shift was preceded by my evolution across various roles and are curious how I handled it. My answer has invariably been that it was a mix of mindful choices and opportunities utilised, where every step felt organic and complementary. Each step added a new layer to the professional I am today. In IT services, I learnt speed, agility, and technical breadth; was trained to think fast, deliver faster, and solve complex problems by working together with other SMEs. It’s a world that taught me to be future ready, think on my toes, be customer-oriented, and deeply aware of delivery excellence. Moving into the industry changed the lens, since providing solutions and bringing change are very different asks. Where IT services promoted rapid innovation, manufacturing taught me to focus on adoption. Where services emphasized deadlines and delivery, industry stressed business alignment, ROI, and business value. In services, the deadline was always yesterday; in industry, the goal is to make every decision count — not for IT, but for the business as a whole. Leading digital transformation initiatives helped me shift from the breadth of technology to the depth of implementation — from “what can we do?” to “what truly moves the needle?” I realised the responsibility was from "strategy to change"; it was about enabling outcomes, shaping mindsets, and transforming operations at scale. As for my role transitions, everything added something unique to my toolkit: ☑️As a developer, I understood code and best practices. ☑️As a business analyst, I learnt the art of requirements elicitation . ☑️As a product manager, I understood strategy and how to balance priorities. ☑️As a consultant, I learned how to shape and sell solutions. ☑️As a digital transformation specialist, I became better at systems thinking and change enablement. ☑️And now, apart from all the above, I know the importance of asking the hard questions — Why aren’t the solutions accepted? Are we solving for the right problems? Every new role led to a mindset shift. Every transition was an opportunity to unlearn and learn. And I am still learning everyday!
