    React Developers let’s talk about something we all struggle with (at least once): Folder Structure. When I started with React, I thought the hardest part would be JSX or hooks. Nope. The real pain? Deciding where to put my code. 👉 Should I dump everything into components/? 👉 Where do APIs go? 👉 Do I need a separate utils/ folder? Over the years, I’ve learned that the right folder structure isn’t just about neatness it’s about 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Here are a few battle-tested lessons that changed the way I organize React projects: 𝟭. 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲 • Don’t split everything into /components, /hooks, /pages globally. • Instead, keep everything feature-specific together: src/   features/    auth/     components/     hooks/     api/   dashboard/     components/     hooks/     api/ 𝟮. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗱/ 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 Some things (buttons, modals, utility functions) are used everywhere. Keep them in one place. This avoids duplication and keeps your code DRY. 𝟯. 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 • Components → PascalCase (e.g., UserProfile.jsx) • Hooks & Utils → camelCase (e.g., useAuth.js, formatDate.js) • Use index.js only when re-exporting 𝟰. 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 (𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻) Just like backend, frontend has layers: • UI Layer → Components • State Layer → Context / Redux / Zustand • Data Layer → API (Axios, fetch, React Query) • Utilities Layer → Helpers 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲: Keep them decoupled. Never mix API logic directly into UI. 𝟱. 𝗔 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 src/ app/        𝗥𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀, 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀   features/     𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀   shared/       𝗥𝗲𝘂𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗳𝗳   assets/       𝗜𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀, 𝗳𝗼𝗻𝘁𝘀   styles/       𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝘂𝘀 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 • Keep test files next to components (Button.test.jsx) • Document your structure in README.md • Config files stay at root (.eslintrc, tailwind.config.js)

Without controlled versioning, a single incorrect save can create broken links, lost work, production delays, and expensive rework. Here is how reliable CAD version control works: → 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘃𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 A version is an internal work checkpoint. A revision is a formally reviewed and released design state. → 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸-𝗜𝗻 / 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸-𝗢𝘂𝘁 Locks files during editing to prevent simultaneous changes, conflicts, and accidental overwrites. → 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 Keeps CAD files, dependencies, metadata, revisions, and history inside one authoritative source. → 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲-𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 Controls who can view, edit, review, approve, and release engineering data. → 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 Creates a traceable checkpoint during every check-in instead of relying on manual file copies. → 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Checks assembly references, linked drawings, and related files before release. → 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 Records what changed, why it changed, who approved it, and which components were affected. A controlled workflow looks like this: Open → Check Out → Edit → Save Version → Validate → Review → Release → Synchronize → Archive PDM controls the CAD files.     Archiving in Document Control Archiving is the final and critical phase of the document lifecycle. It ensures that all project documents, engineering, vendor, contractual, technical, and correspondence are preserved, searchable, retrievable, and auditable throughout the project life and after close-out. 1. Establish the Archiving Strategy Document Control begins by defining: • What to archive: engineering documents, vendor documents, TQs/SQs/NCRs, correspondence, transmittals, registers, 3D models, as-builts, handover deliverables. • Where to archive: EDMS, project server, cloud platforms, or long-term cold storage. • Formats: native files, searchable PDFs, TIF, ZIP bundles, metadata-embedded files. 2. Ensure All Documents Are Finalised Before archiving: • Confirm final revision (As-Built / Final / AFC / Close-Out). • Ensure no outstanding comments, workflows completed, approvals recorded. • Apply correct supersession and freeze previous revisions. 3. Validate Metadata Metadata is essential for search and auditability. Minimum fields: document number, title, discipline, originator, revision, status, tags/systems, contract/package, and dates. 4. Apply Naming & Folder Structure Use consistent file naming: Project Code – Doc Number – Revision – Title (Example: CRX-TOP-MECH-00045-AB – Pump Datasheet.pdf) 5. Convert & Consolidate Files Convert working files to searchable PDF (unless native files required). Ensure: • OCR applied • Drawings combined properly • No temporary/working files • No passwords • Cover sheet/title block included 6. Perform Archiving Quality Check Check both: • Metadata: accuracy of numbers, titles, revisions, status, mandatory fields. • File quality: clarity, correct title block, no blank pages, functional hyperlinks. Document Control should record QC using logs or digital checklists. 7. Upload to Long-Term Archive Upload to EDMS archive zone, close-out drives, client systems, or physical storage. Each upload must include: • Full metadata • DC verification • Reference in the Master Document Register (MDR) 8. Lock & Freeze the Records After upload: • Set to read-only • Disable further revisions • Mark older versions as superseded • Move working files to Archive Legacy folders 9. Create the Final Archive Report Documentation includes: • Archive Index • Final Document Register • Vendor Document Register • Transmittal History • Comment Matrix (optional) • As-Built Register • Storage location map 10. Handover to Client Deliverables usually include: • Final registers • Native + PDF files • As-built drawings • Vendor documents • Manuals, certificates, dossiers • Tag/asset-linked documents • 3D models Best Practices • Start archiving early. • Use automation for QC. • Enforce strict naming rules. • Maintain an updated close-out register. • Align with client handover requirements early. • Perform periodic archive health checks.

After years of painful refactors, messy codebases, and "why is this file here?" moments — I finally locked in a structure that scales. 𝘚𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴. 𝘠𝘰𝘶'𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘵. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁: 𝗮𝗽𝗽/ is just routing. Nothing else. No logic. No business rules. Just pages and layouts. The moment you put logic in your pages — you've already lost. 𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀/ is where your app actually lives. Each domain (auth, cart, users) owns its components, actions, and queries. They never talk to each other directly. Ever. 𝗹𝗶𝗯/ is your server-only engine room. Prisma. Stripe. NextAuth. Fetch wrappers. Nothing here touches the client. Nothing. 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀/ only holds dumb UI. Button. Input. Modal. Toast. If it knows what a "user" is — it doesn't belong here. 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀.𝘁𝘀 is the rule I enforce in every PR. No hardcoded URLs. Ever. One file. Every route. Typed.     Most lawyers waste time on something very small: creating folders. Every time a new client comes in, we manually create folders like “Contracts”, “Drafts”, “Invoices”, etc. It sounds simple, but when you handle many clients, it becomes repetitive admin work. So I automated it. Now whenever a new client signs up, their entire folder structure is created automatically in seconds. Here is exactly how I set it up: Step 1: I created a client onboarding form using Typeform. The form collects basic details like Client Name, Email, Company Name, and Project Type. Step 2: I connected the form to Zapier. Zapier basically acts like a bridge between the form and Google Drive. Step 3: I created a Zap with the trigger: “New form submission”. Step 4: In the action step, Zapier creates a new folder in Google Drive using the client’s name from the form response. Step 5: Then I added multiple actions in the same Zap to automatically create subfolders inside that main folder. The structure looks like this: Client Name • Contracts • Drafts • Signed • Research • Billing Step 6: Now whenever someone fills the onboarding form, this entire folder system is created automatically. No manual work. The best part is that the folders are always structured the same way, which makes finding documents much easier later. Small automations like this save me hours of admin work every month.
