Because EVERYONE should know how to use design to make their expertise irresistible — whether you're presenting, pitching, or promoting. 👇 But first. The BIG misconception: Most people think visual communication = pictures. Wrong. It’s strategy. It’s how you use: - Layout + structure - Fonts + spacing - Visuals + white space - Content flow 💡 Why it matters: Dual Coding Theory. Allan Paivio (visual communication researcher extraordinaire) says we process info through two systems: both verbal (words) + non-verbal (visuals). We need to use them together for boosting understanding, engagement AND memory. Here’s how to do it like a pro 👇 --- 1️⃣ Visual Hierarchy Everything else serves this one goal: Make sure your audience sees the *right info* in the *right order*.     For a month, I used AI to give me the answers, write first drafts, basically do my work. I genuinely felt dumber. Here's how I turned it into a thought partner that actually sharpens my thinking, vs erodes it. I started off using GPT the way most people do, completely enamored at how good it felt. I could put in context and it would output what felt like a smart, robust document. I'd make tweaks, but it wrote the first draft. A month later though, I truly felt dumber. I stopped using my brain - the intellect that gives me my edge. I slowly lost my voice I'd spent so much time time tuning over the years. My craft was dead. I frantically told myself, this couldn't be the way. I wanted my voice back. I had to use it to build my critical thinking, not chip away at it. So, I spent time honing this. Here's what I learned - 2 ways to use AI to sharpen your thinking: 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟭: 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗠𝗲 I give it my first draft (PRDs, strategy docs, slide decks, even Slack messages). I then use one of these prompts:  • I am trying to write a document that does X. My ideal outcome is for the audience to feel Y and walk away with takeaways A, B, C. Give me feedback on what is working vs not and why.   • I want a strong narrative arc. What's not flowing well and how can I tighten it?  • Play devil's advocate. Why won't this work? Give me counterpoints.   • What assumptions am I making here that I haven't stated explicitly? List them out and question each one.  • What questions am I not asking that I should be? Why?  • Where is my reasoning weakest? Poke holes in my logic.  • What risks am I not considering and why are they critical?  • To make this 100X more specific, what is missing?  • Pretend you are X role. What feedback would you give me on this?  • How might this be interpreted differently than my intent and why? 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝟮: 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 GPT is skilled at giving answers. That's the whole point! Here is the short version of the prompt I use to help me arrive at my own answer. Fantastic using voice mode! You are now in Socratic mode.   Goal: Help me uncover my own solution to <topic>.   Context: [Dictate your context] Guidelines: - Ask one focused question at a time that probes assumptions, evidence, implications, or tradeoffs.   - Do not give me the solution or state conclusions.   - If my answer shows I’ve chosen a concrete next step or articulated a clear path forward, treat that as a signal we’re “directionally on track.”   - At that point, or if we start circling, say “Reflection point reached." and give me a summary of our conversation. Don't avoid AI. Just use it in ways that make you a better thinker, not a lazier one 😊. You'll get sharper and retain your voice and craft. If you don't, we'll all slowly start to sound like AI slop - generic, void of unique thought, boring. In a future where everyone has access to the same AI tools, your voice and taste are your only edge.

    School trains kids to find the answer. It almost never teaches them to question it. We reward the child who answers fastest. We rarely reward the one who asks, "but why?" My daughter was three when she caught me. I'd given her some lazy answer: "Well, that's just what they say." She looked at me and asked: "Who's they?" I didn't have a response. A three-year-old had just out-thought me. That instinct is exactly what school slowly trains out of kids. By the time they're teenagers, they've learned the safer move ↴ Give the teacher the answer they want.  Don't poke at it. But the real world doesn't reward people who memorize. It rewards people who can think. Around 2,400 years ago, Socrates already knew this. Socrates never gave his students answers. He just asked sharper questions until they found their own. We still teach his method today.  We call it Socratic questioning. And you can use it at your own kitchen table tonight. Here are his 7 questions, and how to use each one: 1️⃣ Define terms ❓ "What do you actually mean by that?" Most arguments fall apart over fuzzy words. Make them define it before they defend it. 2️⃣ Question assumptions ❓ "Why do you believe that?" Every opinion is sitting on an assumption. Pull it out and look at it together. 3️⃣ Demand evidence ❓ "Can you give me an example?" A vague idea is just a feeling. An example turns it into something you can examine. 4️⃣ Test consequences ❓ "What happens if you're right?" Play the idea all the way forward. Strong thinking survives a reality check. 5️⃣ Spot contradictions ❓ "Does that fit with what you said before?" Contradictions are where the thinking breaks. Catching them is a skill, not an insult. 6️⃣ Doubt the obvious ❓ "What if this isn't true?" The beliefs nobody questions are the dangerous ones. Doubt is where progress starts. 7️⃣ Consider alternatives ❓ "What would the other side say?" Make them argue the view they can't stand. It's the fastest way to grow a sharper mind and real empathy. None of these need a curriculum. None of them need a test. They just need an adult willing to ask instead of answer. A kid who can recite facts will be replaced by a machine. A kid who can question them won't. The goal was never to fill children with answers.     Stop teaching like it’s a monologue and start asking questions that actually make students think. Socratic questioning is one of the most powerful tools a teacher can use. It’s not about getting the “right answer”, it’s about guiding students to think deeper, reason critically and explore ideas for themselves.
