    Finding leads isn’t the hard part. Finding the right leads is. From what I’ve seen working with founders and GTM teams: Outbound rarely fails because of bad emails. It fails because of bad targeting. Wrong people → ignored emails → wasted effort. So recently, I tried something different.     Figma announced exciting updates at Config 🚀 They are not just updating features but also changing how we design, develop, collaborate, and present. Here are the updates you should know about: 👉🏻 Remember struggling with small screen space? (Especially if you are designing on a laptop like I am most of the time) Mostly because of the big Layers, Toolbar and Properties Panel taking most of the space. They have made the Layers and Properties panel collapsible. It's like our screens just got bigger! 👉🏻 And Auto Layout? It used to be tricky, right? I teach Figma to lots of designers, and many find Auto Layout hard. This new feature will make it much easier for them to learn and use. The'Suggest Auto Layout' feature helps you create Auto Layout without needing to worry about nesting design elements. It knows exactly how to arrange things. (Works well for simple and small designs for now, but I am sure it will improve over time) 👉🏻 Oh, and guess what? Figma now has Apple and Google's UI Kits built-in. No more starting from scratch - just drag and drop! These all components are made with high standards, making it easy for you to switch themes. So, for beginners as well as experienced designers, designing better products has become easier. All of them have React code written to make app development faster and easier for developers. 👉🏻 Developers, be excited! Remember how difficult it is to find ready-for-dev designs in a Design file because of multiple explorations and iterations The new Figma Interface has a dedicated Ready for Dev page for Developers. The improved interface helps you find the right designs faster. No more building the wrong version! ✨ Finally, the most awaited AI has a home in Figma!     𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐞𝐬 𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐈 𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐬, 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 ! 🧠 We’re seeing a fascinating paradox: While ChatGPT improves the quality of individual ideas, it also leads groups to generate more similar ideas, reducing the variety that’s essential for breakthrough innovation. 📉 In 37 out of 45 comparisons, AI-generated ideas were significantly less diverse than those from human-led methods. 💡 Just 6% of AI-generated ideas were considered unique—compared to 100% in the human group. Even when researchers changed how they measured similarity, the pattern held. That’s not just a technical detail—it’s a creativity warning. 💡 In product development, marketing, and strategy, success depends on range, not just refinement. We need ideas that clash, collide, and challenge each other—not just ones that sound smart, according to a new fascinating research published by The Wharton School and University of Pennsylvania researchers. When you give ChatGPT the same prompt, it pulls from the same underlying distribution of likely completions. So across multiple sessions, it’s no surprise: fewer distinct ideas, more polished sameness. But here’s the twist: 🔍 The lack of diversity wasn’t just the model’s fault. Participants often used similar prompts—suggesting that how we engage with AI also shapes the creative outcome. 👉 Researchers conclude that If you rely on ChatGPT as your only creative advisor, you’ll soon run out of ideas, because they’re too similar to each other ☝️ 𝙈𝙮 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬: I’ve been thinking a lot about a subtle risk in our growing reliance on GenAI for creative work. AI might sharpen your pitch, but it could flatten your team’s thinking. The ideas are great—clear, polished, persuasive. But they’re not as diverse as human-generated ones. And that points to a trade-off we need to name. I believe using ChatGPT can inadvertently diminish the diversity of the overall output. If you rely on it as your only creative advisor, you’ll soon run out of ideas—not because they’re bad, but because they’re too similar to each other. As researchers pointed out, in product development, marketing, and strategy, sameness is the enemy of innovation. We need ideas that clash, collide, and challenge—not just ones that sound smart. GenAI is a brilliant co-pilot and co-thinker as I already shared in some other post. But it’s not a substitute for human messiness, disagreement, or surprise. Here are the top three things an advisor should look for in a lead generation tool today: 1. Hyper-Personalization and Digital Accessibility Why it matters: Consumers expect financial services to feel as intuitive and personal as their Netflix feed. They want advice tailored to life stages, goals, behaviors, and even values – not a one-size-fits-all approach. What to look for in a tool: 🔸 The ability to segment leads dynamically (by life stage, income, values, digital behaviors). 🔸AI-driven personalization (e.g., content suggestions or call-to-actions based on lead profiles). 🔸Mobile-first design and omnichannel integration to meet users wherever they are – app, desktop, or even voice. 52% of advisors say investors want more personalization; 76% of U.S. consumers now expect it as the default 2. Holistic Financial Wellness Integration Why it matters: People aren’t just looking for stock picks. They want comprehensive financial guidance & engagement – budgeting, debt, insurance, retirement, values-based investing, and more. What to look for in a tool: 🔸Capability to qualify leads beyond AUM – including goals, financial literacy, debt levels, life milestones. 🔸Integration with budgeting tools, debt calculators, retirement readiness assessments, etc. 🔸Messaging flexibility to talk about wellness and life goals, not just portfolios. A holistic approach to financial advice can save the average household ~$4,384/year. 3. Trust Signals, Transparent Pricing, and Regulatory Alignment Why it matters: Trust is the cornerstone of lead conversion, and today’s consumer is savvy, skeptical, and scrolling. They'll Google you, check your reviews, and side-eye any hidden fees. What to look for in a tool: 🔸Built-in disclosures and customizable pricing transparency (subscription, flat-fee, hybrid). 🔸Ability to display your personality, interests, credentials, reviews, and social proof. 🔸Compliance-ready frameworks that align with evolving regulations (especially if leveraging AI or social media). 67% of Europeans don’t trust investment advice from traditional sources, and 51% of Americans don’t trust AI-generated advice unless verified by a human. All data from The New State of Advice and The Future of Financial Advice reports. Bonus Tip: Make sure your leadgen tool isn't creepy. The last thing a potential client wants is a cold call, email, DM, etc. from an advisor who somehow knows their income, how much the bought their house for, and that they just changed jobs. If your leadgen tool has not incorporated these things into it how it works then buyer beware. Questions I would ask about your leadgen tool: 🔸Does it rely on creepy data scraping or organic consumer fed data? 🔸Does it drive warm inbound leads, or make you cold call and compete? 🔸Does it enhance the human connection or "match" upon ZIP code and 401k balance?

    Here's my 36th column for Rolling Stone, “The Way We Communicate Is Holding Back the Way We Think, and How to Set It Free.” Shoutout to James Huerta for co-creating this model with me. We live in an age of extraordinary abundance with more data, more tools, more computing power than any civilization in history. Yet somehow, our imagination feels smaller. We’re drowning in information but starving for vision. We scroll endlessly, type endlessly, trying to express big dreams through little boxes. The irony is that in our pursuit of efficiency, we’ve built tools that have made our minds less free. We’ve compressed creativity into characters and lines, turning the act of dreaming into something that must fit between keystrokes. For decades, we’ve treated communication as a neutral vessel for thought, as if the words, tools, and technologies we use simply carry what’s already inside us. But that’s not how the mind works. The medium shapes the message. Typing invites precision, but it also invites hesitation. It trains us to edit as we go, to shrink the edges of our imagination so they fit neatly inside sentences. Voice, on the other hand, flows. When we speak, we share rhythm, emotion, breath, and belief. Speaking allows for the natural chaos of creativity to emerge before we tame it into order. A study from the University of Waterloo found that people generate 40% more novel ideas when brainstorming through voice instead of typing. That's efficiency, creativity, and imagination In this new column, I explore what I call the ladder from compression to expansion. It's a framework for reimagining the way we think. From bottom to top is: Letter Mode, where typing constrains us to linear precision. Word Mode, voice-to-text tools like Siri or Dictation. Flow Mode, where we speak in paragraphs and our minds follow a thread. Idea Mode, where voice notes become raw material for reflection. Synthesis Mode, where AI helps us find patterns. Vision Mode, the meeting point of human imagination and machine amplification, the space where futures are born. This isn’t about replacing human creativity; it’s about liberating it from outdated tools we're shackled to. Steve Jobs was known for his walking meetings, where ideas could breathe in motion. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. refined his speeches aloud, letting cadence and emotion guide meaning before words were ever written. Even AI models like Whisper are learning from voice first, because that’s where human thought is most alive, unfiltered, and real. If we want to expand our thinking, we must expand the containers we use to express it. We have to stop mistaking precision for depth. Stop thinking only in keystrokes. Start dreaming out loud. When you change how you communicate, you change how you think. And maybe, just maybe, that’s how we’ll start imagining at the level this moment demands. Model is in the comments below.

    The CHI Tools for Thought Workshop brought together the world's top researchers on computer-human interaction. These are some of their extremely useful findings on the perils and potential of GenAI. 🧠 GenAI reshapes critical thinking. People often shift from active seeking to passive consumption of AI outputs, especially when trust in AI is high or domain confidence is low. This can lead to reduced reflection, overreliance, and homogenized thinking. 📚 Novices benefit least—and may be harmed. Underprepared or underconfident students often misuse GenAI, asking vague questions and following poor suggestions. These users show less critical thinking and get worse results than peers with more knowledge. 🎨 Creative workflows risk fixation. GenAI can accelerate design work but also encourages "tweaking" over exploration. Its high-fidelity outputs may fixate user thinking and reduce originality unless consciously countered. 💼 Experts want support, not substitution. Professionals embrace GenAI for routine tasks but avoid it for nuanced decisions. They value systems that augment rather than override their workflows, preserving agency and deep work. 🌱 Motivation and identity are at stake. GenAI may undercut intrinsic motivation by replacing meaningful mental effort. In creative fields, people resist AI replacing core contributions that define their professional identity. 🔧 Scaffolding beats full automation. Process-oriented AI—supporting steps like planning or schema formation—helps users better than fully automated systems. It’s most effective for complex tasks and learning goals. 💡 Cognitive friction can be a feature. AI systems that challenge users—by prompting reflection or surfacing ambiguity—can enhance thinking. But in productivity contexts, their value must be clearly evident to gain adoption. 🌀 Representation shapes understanding. Translating information across modalities or levels of abstraction can aid cognition. Examples include turning text into visuals or informal ideas into formal code. 🎭 Emotions and intuition can be augmented too. GenAI can boost ‘System 1’ processes like emotion and intuition to support cognitive outcomes. Examples include surreal stimuli to spark creativity, or personalization to increase motivation and reduce anxiety. 🛠️ Interfaces direct thought. Moving beyond text prompts, designs like direct manipulation or AI output previews can clarify user intent and reduce effort. But they might also reduce opportunities for deep reflection. 🔗 Workflow integration is key. GenAI’s real power comes when it supports entire workflows—not just tasks—especially in collaborative settings. Systems must adapt to roles, expertise, and context to augment rather than disrupt cognition. 📏 Better theories and measures are needed. Current frameworks help, but new constructs are needed to study how GenAI affects thinking. Reliable metrics will be crucial for assessing long-term cognitive impacts.

    20%. You may think your phone isn’t a distraction when you’re not using it, but your brain calls bullshit. Yes, smartphones have conditioned people in a way similar to Pavlov's dogs through a process of classical and operant conditioning. I’ve witnessed this and been a victim of it. In two experiments, researchers found that participants performed up to 20% better on memory and reasoning tests when their phones were left in another room versus sitting silently on the desk beside them. Even face down and muted, the mere presence of the phone caused a measurable drop in focus and cognitive performance. Your brain can’t help but monitor that device, just in case something happens, burning energy you need for real thinking. And here’s where it gets interesting: as smartwatches become more common, they may be compounding the problem. A buzz on the wrist, a flash of light, a subtle tap - each one hijacks your attention just enough to break flow. Even when notifications are off, the constant potential of interruption keeps your brain on standby. We’ve traded the “out of sight” productivity hack for a wearable tether that keeps distraction within arm’s reach. If clarity and creativity matter, try a new kind of focus experiment: leave your phone in another room, take off the smartwatch, and give your brain the quiet it’s wired to crave. You will be surprised how much sharper your thinking gets and how much calmer your day feels.
