Teams will increasingly include both humans and AI agents. We need to learn how best to configure them. A new Stanford University paper "ChatCollab: Exploring Collaboration Between Humans and AI Agents in Software Teams" reveals a range of useful insights. A few highlights: 💡 Human-AI Role Differentiation Fosters Collaboration. Assigning distinct roles to AI agents and humans in teams, such as CEO, Product Manager, and Developer, mirrors traditional team dynamics. This structure helps define responsibilities, ensures alignment with workflows, and allows humans to seamlessly integrate by adopting any role. This fosters a peer-like collaboration environment where humans can both guide and learn from AI agents. 🎯 Prompts Shape Team Interaction Styles. The configuration of AI agent prompts significantly influences collaboration dynamics. For example, emphasizing "asking for opinions" in prompts increased such interactions by 600%. This demonstrates that thoughtfully designed role-specific and behavioral prompts can fine-tune team dynamics, enabling targeted improvements in communication and decision-making efficiency. 🔄 Iterative Feedback Mechanisms Improve Team Performance. Human team members in roles such as clients or supervisors can provide real-time feedback to AI agents. This iterative process ensures agents refine their output, ask pertinent questions, and follow expected workflows. Such interaction not only improves project outcomes but also builds trust and adaptability in mixed teams. 🌟 Autonomy Balances Initiative and Dependence. ChatCollab’s AI agents exhibit autonomy by independently deciding when to act or wait based on their roles. For example, developers wait for PRDs before coding, avoiding redundant work. Ensuring that agents understand role-specific dependencies and workflows optimizes productivity while maintaining alignment with human expectations. 📊 Tailored Role Assignments Enhance Human Learning. Humans in teams can act as coaches, mentors, or peers to AI agents. This dynamic enables human participants to refine leadership and communication skills, while AI agents serve as practice partners or mentees. Configuring teams to simulate these dynamics provides dual benefits: skill development for humans and improved agent outputs through feedback. 🔍 Measurable Dynamics Enable Continuous Improvement. Collaboration analysis using frameworks like Bales’ Interaction Process reveals actionable patterns in human-AI interactions. For example, tracking increases in opinion-sharing and other key metrics allows iterative configuration and optimization of combined teams. 💬 Transparent Communication Channels Empower Humans. Using shared platforms like Slack for all human and AI interactions ensures transparency and inclusivity. Humans can easily observe agent reasoning and intervene when necessary, while agents remain responsive to human queries. Link to paper in comments.

AI isn't just a tool; it's becoming a teammate. A major field experiment with 776 professionals at Procter & Gamble, led by researchers from Harvard, Wharton, and Warwick, revealed something remarkable: Generative AI can replicate and even outperform human teamwork. Read the recently published paper here: In a real-world new product development challenge, professionals were assigned to one of four conditions: 1. Control Individuals without AI 2. Human Team R&D + Commercial without AI (+0.24 SD) 3. Individual + AI Working alone with GPT-4 (+0.37 SD) 4. AI-Augmented Team Human team + GPT-4 (+0.39 SD) Key findings: ⭐ Individuals with AI matched the output quality of traditional teams, with 16% less time spent. ⭐ AI helped non-experts perform like seasoned product developers. ⭐ It flattened functional silos: R&D and Commercial employees produced more balanced, cross-functional solutions. ⭐ It made work feel better: AI users reported higher excitement and energy and lower anxiety, even more so than many working in human-only teams. What does this mean for organizations? 💡 Rethink team structures. One AI-empowered individual can do the work of two and do it faster. 💡 Democratize expertise. AI is a boundary-spanning engine that reduces reliance on deep specialization. 💡 Invest in AI fluency. Prompting and AI collaboration skills are the new competitive edge. 💡 Double down on innovation. AI + team = highest chance of top-tier breakthrough ideas. This is not just productivity software. This is a redefinition of how work happens. AI is no longer the intern or the assistant. It’s showing up as a cybernetic teammate, enhancing performance, dissolving silos, and lifting morale. The future of work isn’t human vs. AI. The next step is human + AI + new ways of collaborating. Are you ready?

What kills collaboration faster than conflict? Silence. How AI can fix it.     We've all been there: a meeting ends, everyone nods, no one asks questions... and yet, the project still goes sideways. The truth? Silence doesn’t mean clarity. Silence in teams can feel like alignment, but it's often confusion in disguise. It usually means someone didn’t feel safe or empowered to ask for it.   Even the best teams hit roadblocks:   Misunderstandings from assumptions Hesitation to ask questions Miscommunication that leads to rework   These challenges aren't new, but the way we tackle them can be.   This is where AI can quietly transform how your team collaborates. By acting as a neutral, judgment-free assistant, AI makes it easier for people to understand questions, clarify tasks, and stay aligned without fear of “looking dumb.”    Here's how:   ✅ Clarify complexity – AI can quickly summarize dense threads, documents, or meeting notes. ✅ Encourage curiosity – With the right prompts, AI makes it safe and easy to ask “obvious” questions. ✅ Keep teams in sync – AI can reinforce shared goals and priorities without sounding repetitive. It’s like adding a smart, impartial facilitator to every meeting, every teams thread, every project doc.   💡 Try this prompt to get started: "You are a helpful team assistant. Whenever I ask a question, respond with a reasonable amount of detail to help the team work together effectively." Simple but powerful to make missing information to all team members visible.     Ready to bring this into your team culture? Start with these steps:   1. Pick one team ritual (e.g., weekly meeting, retros, or docs) and layer in AI support. Let AI summarize, generate follow-up questions, or identify unclear points. 2. Encourage “clarifying questions” as a norm, not a nuisance. Use AI to increase curiosity and good inquiry. 3. Train with prompts. Craft a few go-to prompts your team can use in AI tools like Co-Pilot or whatever tool you use.   Collaboration doesn’t break down because people don’t care. It breaks down when people don’t feel clear and get frustrated.

🤔 What turns a conversation with AI into genuine collaboration? It's not simply exchanging more messages—or even getting the right answer. As AI evolves from being a tool to becoming a collaborator, we need better ways to understand how humans and AI actually work together. 💬🌉💭 Bridging Talk and Thought introduces a framework for analysing collaborative problem solving between humans and AI agents. Rather than focusing only on outcomes, the framework examines how teams: - reason together, - provide social support, - establish shared goals, - monitor progress, - adapt strategies, and - reflect on their decisions. Evaluated across nine datasets spanning multiple collaborative problem-solving contexts, the research shows that metacognitive regulation—how collaborators monitor and manage their thinking—may be one of the strongest indicators of effective collaboration. Human–AI teams don't just think together; they actively manage how they think together. This work is the result of a collaboration between @https://lnkd.in/gJj-sfeg NUS Computing and A*STAR Institute of Advanced Intelligence and Computing (A*STAR IAIC) , providing researchers and practitioners with a rigorous framework for designing and evaluating the next generation of human–AI collaboration. w/ @https://lnkd.in/eHp6kcKr, @https://lnkd.in/e8DkQp4w and Nancy Chen 📄 Read the SIGDIAL ‘26 accepted paper: https://lnkd.in/ezaB5sqK

As someone who works 7 days a week, I have had to create weekends and strict rest periods inside my days of active work. Saturday and Sundays are more led with personal tasks but I can't fully disconnect from the mission on weekends and so day naps, strict working days of 10am-3am and working after 8pm (the kids bedtime) become a method of achieving all of my goals and commitments. My consideration for you is: Clarify your values: Reflect on what truly matters to you. Identify your core values and aspirations in both your professional and personal spheres. Understanding what is most important will help you make more aligned choices. Set boundaries: Establish clear boundaries between work and personal life. Determine specific times and spaces dedicated to work, and make a conscious effort to disconnect and engage in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment outside of work. Communicate your boundaries to colleagues, clients, and loved ones to foster respect and understanding. Prioritise self-care: Taking care of yourself is crucial for maintaining overall well-being. Prioritise self-care activities that recharge and rejuvenate you, such as exercise, quality sleep, hobbies, and spending time with loved ones. Remember that self-care is not selfish; it enables you to show up as your best self in all areas of life. Assess your workload: Evaluate your workload and responsibilities realistically. Be mindful of taking on too much and learn to delegate or say no when necessary. Recognise that you have limitations, and it is essential to avoid burnout by finding a sustainable balance between productivity and rest. Foster open communication: Engage in open and honest communication with your employer, colleagues, and loved ones about your work-life balance priorities. Clearly express your needs and concerns, and seek solutions that accommodate both personal and professional commitments. Collaborative dialogue can lead to mutually beneficial arrangements. Embrace flexibility: Explore opportunities for flexible work arrangements, such as remote work, flexible hours, or compressed workweeks. Flexibility can help create more space for personal pursuits and enable a better integration of work and life responsibilities. Practice mindfulness and presence: Cultivate mindfulness by being fully present in the present moment, whether you are at work or engaged in personal activities. By focusing on the task at hand, you can enhance productivity, reduce stress, and derive greater enjoyment from your experiences. Regularly reassess and adjust: Recognise that work-life balance is a dynamic process. Regularly assess your approach, considering your changing circumstances and priorities. Adjust your choices and commitments accordingly to maintain a harmonious equilibrium over time.

I thought working late nights & weekend sacrifices were the key to success—until burnout hit hard. With 62% of IT pros facing it, here’s how I fought back!😱😖🥷 When I started my #career, I was all in—super excited, ready to prove myself, and constantly putting my heart and soul into every project. But after a few months, things started to feel overwhelming. I still remember missing my best friend's wedding because I was stuck with a project deadline. The guilt hit me hard, and I realized I was sacrificing my personal life for work. A year later, I hit a wall. I was physically and mentally drained, and my motivation was gone. Turns out, I was dealing with burnout. I lost interest in what I was doing, became irritable, and felt exhausted all the time. That’s when I knew something had to change. After some trial and error, I found a few strategies that helped me balance work and life better: 1. Set Boundaries: I realized how important it is to define my working hours. Now, I communicate my availability to colleagues and resist the urge to check emails after hours. This has made my evenings more peaceful without constant work notifications. 2. Prioritize Self-Care: I started making time for things that recharge me—exercise, reading, and spending time with family. Being physically active has boosted not just my mood, but my work #productivity too. 3. Use Technology Wisely: #Technology can blur the line between work and life, but I use tools to manage my time better. #ProjectManagement software helps me stay on top of tasks and reminds me to take breaks, which keeps me organized without feeling overwhelmed. 4. Seek Support: I leaned on mentors and colleagues, sharing experiences and learning from each other. Having a support system has been so important, and we often celebrate our wins together, which creates a positive work environment. 5. Check-In Regularly: I now regularly assess how I'm balancing work and life. Things change, and what works today might not work tomorrow. Staying flexible and adjusting my strategies has been key to keeping things balanced. Work-life balance is definitely not a one-time fix—it’s a journey. I still have days when work tries to take over, but now I have the tools and a #mindset to handle it better. In an industry like tech, where the pace is fast and the pressure is high, taking care of our #mentalhealth and well-being is critical. If you're feeling overwhelmed, remember you’re not alone. It’s okay to pause and reassess your priorities. #startups #entrepreneurship #workplace #worklifebalance #AI #tech #GenerativeAI #hustle

Can we all agree to throw out the phrase work-life balance? It's not attainable, and I see too many people burning out trying to achieve it. Let's shoot for work-life harmony instead. Striving for work-life harmony is a much more realistic and sustainable approach. 🌟 Work-life harmony doesn't mean juggling equal time between work and personal life. It's about creating a rhythm where these aspects complement and support each other instead of competing for attention. Here's how you can achieve it: 1. Boundaries with Purpose: Clearly define when work starts and ends. Set limits on emails and calls outside those hours, allowing you to engage in personal activities without work distractions fully. 2. Prioritization Power: Prioritize tasks based on impact and deadlines. When you're at work, focus on high-impact tasks so you can be present for personal time, knowing you've tackled the essentials. 3. Flex Your Way: Embrace flexibility in how and where you work. Some days might be better for early mornings, others for late nights. Flexibility keeps you productive while accommodating personal needs. 4. Mindful Transitions: Create a routine that helps transition between work and personal time. It could be a short walk, a few minutes of meditation, or even playing a favorite song that signals the shift. 5. **Blurred Lines:** Embrace the overlap between work and personal life. Consider a brainstorming session while cooking dinner or squeezing in a workout during a work break. Blend activities to optimize your time. 6. Learn to Say No: Saying yes to everything spreads you thin. Be intentional about your commitments. Politely declining tasks that don't align with your priorities ensures you have time for what truly matters. 7. Delegate & Collaborate: Don't be afraid to delegate tasks at work and share responsibilities at home. It not only lightens your load but also empowers others to contribute. 8. Tech Detox: Create designated tech-free zones and times. Disconnecting from screens fosters connections with loved ones and cultivates mindful presence. 9. Meaningful Multitasking: Combine activities that align, like listening to audiobooks during your commute or learning a new skill while exercising. Multitasking can be productive and enjoyable. 10. Regular Reflection: Periodically assess how your harmony is holding up. Adjustments might be needed as circumstances change. Remember, work-life harmony isn't a destination; it's a continuous journey. By embracing these strategies, you'll be better equipped to navigate the ebb and flow of life's demands, ensuring both professional and personal fulfillment. Let's redefine success and celebrate a life well-balanced in harmony. 🎶🌼

I used to be proud of my 80-hour work weeks. → Until I burned out completely. Here's what I learned about real success. The truth about work-life balance: It's not about equal time. It's about equal energy. Here's my framework: 1) Energy Management Track your peak performance hours Schedule deep work during high-energy Rest when you're low 2) The Boundary System No-phone zones at home Email-free weekends Protected family time 3) Time Multipliers Batch similar tasks Automate repetitive work Delegate what drains you 4) Life First Scheduling Book personal commitments first Protect exercise time Schedule daily recharge 5) Work Boundaries Define work hours clearly Set client expectations Learn to say no 6) Energy Boosters Regular movement breaks Healthy fuel choices Power naps when needed What changed when I implemented this framework? → Productivity up by 2x → Stress down 70% Remember: Success without fulfillment = The ultimate failure Work will take everything you give it, unless you set the rules. Start here: Audit your time Set clear boundaries Protect what matters Balance isn't perfect → But burnout is perfectly avoidable Your life = Your rules Rest = Productivity Boundaries = Freedom Share if you believe in sustainable success. Because remember: Nobody ever said on their deathbed "I wish I spent more time at the office." Start designing your ideal balance today.

A new paper from USC introduces "Mixture of Thoughts" - and it might fundamentally change how we build AI systems. Here's the problem they're solving: We have dozens of specialized AI models now - some excel at math, others at coding, others at language. But when we try to combine them, we typically just pick one expert per task or awkwardly average their outputs. It's like having a team meeting where everyone works in isolation and you just vote on the final answer. Not exactly collaborative intelligence. Mixture of Thoughts comes with a different approach: Instead of waiting until the end to combine outputs, these models share their intermediate "thoughts" - their hidden representations - as they process information. A lightweight router picks the best experts for each query, but the primary expert can peek at what all the other experts are "thinking" at multiple points during processing, not just at the end. It's genuine collaboration at the level of reasoning, not just output aggregation. The system outperforms individual expert models by up to 10% while maintaining the efficiency of single-pass inference. More importantly, it works with completely different model architectures - you don't need matching models to collaborate. And when one expert fails? The system gracefully degrades, maintaining performance through the remaining collaborators. Instead of racing toward ever-larger monolithic models, we might build ecosystems of specialized, collaborative agents. Imagine your organization's custom models seamlessly collaborating with open-source specialists and commercial APIs, all thinking together rather than just voting on outputs. We're moving from AI as a tool to AI as a team. What would be your first AI "colleagues" today? ↓ 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐮𝐩?
